Health Insurance
HEALTH INSURANCE for individuals and families under 65
With health insurance being a high priority with the federal government, changes in the health insurance environment are coming with the new law. The insurance companies are modifying existing plans, dropping plans, and adding plans with new and modified benefits to meet the law requirements. Plans and prices are changing.
Whether you have or don’t have health insurance, these changes are important to you. You may be able to get insurance when you could not get coverage before. Or, you may have an opportunity to save on your monthly health insurance cost or improve the benefits. You have two basic health insurance categories that health insurance plans come under: COPAY PLANS and HSA PLANS.
We give you two choices to get started to evaluate your health insurance situation:
- GET HEALTH QUOTE NOW is for those who clearly understand the benefit term differences of insurance companies, who have no major health issues, and/or take one or two medications, and who know what plan is best for them.
- REQUEST FREE PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE is for those who need clear “apple to apple” comparisons of plans, who have some medical issue and/or take more than two medications, and who want a clear explanation of the plan benefits.

What is COBRA?
A provision in the law that requires almost all employers to allow their terminated employees to continue their group coverage for up to 18 months, provided the employee pays 100 percent of the cost of the insurance.
- If you are on COBRA, you need to search for insurance with a licensed agent. To keep your monthly costs low have the licensed agent review the options available for increasing your deductible and copayments.
- Don’t wait ‘til the last minute to get your health insurance!

What is HIPAA?
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 requires that states provide at least a minimal coverage after you exhaust COBRA benefits, as long as you haven’t had any extended lapse (generally a break of 63 days or more) in coverage. Premiums under HIPPA may be two to three times what they would be for a standard-rate policy. HIPAA policies are typically an option of the last resort for many people without employer-provided health insurance. However, HIPAA is still better than no health insurance at all. HIPAA rules vary by state, so be sure to check before dropping any current coverage.
State of FLORIDA requires Insurance Companies to provide HIPAA health insurance plans.

State High-Risk Health Pools
Check with your state’s Insurance Commissioner’s Office for more information. These Risk Pools are designed to assist people who are medically uninsurable due to significant health problems. You might have to pay 125% – 150% of the cost of a standard policy, if there are even funds available. Waiting lists can be long.
Medicaid and other state-based healthcare programs: Income levels, eligibility requirements, and benefits vary by state.
State Children’s Health Insurance Program: These programs provide health care coverage to children when their families’ income is greater than what Medicare allows.
